What have you learned from your audience feedback?
I have handed out a questionnaire to a sample audience and have shown them a preview of my first and second drafts or my trailer.
This was possibly the most important part of my project as this is where I have learnt what the target audience would like to see and what they think of my first draft. After receiving the feedback I have set out to improve my product and produce an improved draft.
Here are some of the key points that have been made during the feedback stages of my drafts and further below I have made a video log of a few of my audience feedback interviews.
Positive Feedback From trailer
Music fits well with trailer
Good opening angle shot
Good variety of Angles
Actor fits with character
Good use of visibility and lighting
Looks professional
Text explains story
Good timing of shots
Steady shots
Interesting story
Liked black and white shots in lift
Zoom shots were good
Music creates atmosphere
Lighting is effective in scenes
Good bus scene
Running through crowd (more action scenes)
Negative feedback
Could include studio name at the beginning
Music needs to be faded out at the end.
Didn’t like the shot face to face
Font of text should be the same as rest of the trailer
Don’t like the last shot
Take the sound out of the underground shot.
Need to know who bad guy is.
Some scenes not professional
I have also asked the sample audience to give my film a rating out of 10 to see how the film went after viewing each draft. These are the results:
Because of the success of the 3rd draft I have made this the final draft, will not edit this further and will submit this as my final trailer.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
I think that individually the film trailer (main product) is very effective and from an advertising point of view will catch viewers attention and will attract and pull them to watch the real film in the cinema. However both the ancillary texts, the film poster and magazine cover are effective in backing the trailer up. The poster is a good representation of the main product and you can see how it relates. Straight away you can see the main character and from the title of the film you can tell that the film is some sort of action genre. Also the film title “DEFECTED” will give the target audience a clue straight away to what the film is about. Also as I have included a positive review as part of my poster this will help attract people to watch the main product, this would certainly help compared to a bad review as that would put off potential viewers. The magazine cover features both of my characters and is set in a city so again gives the audience an idea of the setting.
I feel that as there is a level of consistency throughout my magazine, poster and trailer. In all of them you can identify the main character and the title of the film. When combined together I feel that they will work well as seeing one may result in interested audiences finding out more and viewing the other. For example after seeing my film poster, interested individuals may be spurred on to watch the trailer or go out and buy the magazine in which my film is featured in.
Overall I think that the combination of the main product and ancillary texts work well together and provide and effective platform to get members of my target audience into cinema’s and watching the film.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Here I have annotated and made descriptive points throughout my trailer to help identify a number of codes and conventions that I have incorporated into my main trailer task.

Weekly Update 17
This week I have completed both of my ancillary tasks and have uploaded them onto my blog. I feel both complement the trailer and any viewers will be aware of the film instantly making them and effective advertising package when combined together.
Now I have moved on to the evaluation stage of the coursework which should be completed within the next week or two.
